Fauci: ‘We must now assume’ that British virus strain ‘could cause more damage’
Asked by Margaret Brennan of CBS about his earlier allegations that the strain, although contagious, was apparently not more deadly, Fauci said: ‘The data that came out was after they kept saying it did not look more deadly, so this is where we got the information. ‘

“When the British investigators looked at the mortality rate of a certain age group more closely, they found that it was one per thousand … and then it grew to 1.3 per thousand in a certain group,” Fauci added. “This is a significant increase. So the latest data is in line with what the British are saying. We want to look at the data ourselves, but we have every reason to believe it. They are a very capable group.”
Fauci further said Americans “must now assume that what is predominant in the UK does have a certain increase in what we call virulence, namely the power of the virus to do more damage, including death.”
Fauci addressed another tribe that allegedly originated in South Africa separately, saying that ‘in some cases [the strain] reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine “but that the vaccine was generally still effective.
