The Portuguese star did not hold on when Sergio Oliveira’s free kick went through his legs and in extra time passed Wojciech Szczesny.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been called up for turning Porto’s decisive free-kick into a wall as Juventus crashed out of the Champions League on Tuesday.
Porto, ten men, got a big stir in the last 16 and lost the second leg in Turin 3-2 after extra time, but progressed via away goals with a total of 4-4.
The decisive moment in the draw came with just five minutes left in the second half of extra time as Sergio Oliveira’s long-range free-kick went under Juve’s wall and slipped past goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
What happened in Tuesday’s game?
After winning the first game at home 2-1, Porto grabbed a massive away goal in the 19th minute when Oliveira’s penalty goal tied the score at 3-1.
But Juve hit back through Federico Chiesa, who scored two goals in the second half on either side of a second yellow card for Porto’s Mehdi Taremi.
Although he was a man, Juve could not find a winner, and Oliveira’s second goal of the night came when Juve’s wall broke – Ronaldo was guilty of twisting his back and lifting his leg, so that the ball could go through his legs.
Adrien Rabiot’s late goal was only a consolation when Juve crashed out of the competition, which ensured that Ronaldo’s wait for European glory at the Italian team would continue.
What was said on social media?
‘Ronaldo will not make it happen’, a constant phrase you hear when Messi & Barca are knocked out by Liverpool and Bayern. But if that was true, why has Ronaldo been thrown out by Ajax, Lyon and now Porto over the past three years? How did he make it happen?

Ronaldo will be blamed for not being strong in the wall, but the real villain is that Juventus did not create a single chance for him in 210 minutes of football.

Porto is pinching it for sure. We finally found something Ronaldo could not do: stand still in a wall. Blimey, Juve scored again. 4-4 and Porto lead on away goals. Bonkers game.

🗣: Juve scored too many goals in their two games due to their own mistakes. The penalty kick was a gift from Demiral, but the worst one is that of Ronaldo in the wall, it’s an unforgivable mistake.

Jamie Carragher now puts it best on CBS – “It’s Ronaldo’s schoolboy stuff.”
The whole wall does not cover themselves here in glory, but especially Ronaldo who does not even look at the ball. Little things make a difference in these knockout tournaments. pic.twitter.com/6mUiQNN1o3
