“We are in a worse place today than before he came in.”

WASHINGTON – Former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, whom President Donald Trump allegedly called an “idiot” behind closed doors, is now disrespectful – on record – of his understanding of his former boss of both foreign and domestic affairs.

“His understanding of global events, his understanding of world history, his understanding of American history was really limited,” the former Exxon Mobil chief said Foreign policy magazine in an interview released this week.

The Texan adds: “It’s really hard to have a conversation with someone who does not even understand the concept of why we’re talking about this.”

There has never been a loss of love between Tillerson and Trump, especially not after the president fired his foreign secretary with a tweet. Trump has branded the Texan as ‘dumb as a rock’ and ‘lazy as hell’, while Tillerson calls Trump an ‘undisciplined’ leader who ‘does not like to read’.

But until now, Tillerson had not been so detailed in his frustration.

‘I regularly held meetings with a list of four to five things I needed to talk to him about, and I quickly learned that when I was at three, it was a home business, and I realized it would probably get two. the best goal, ”he said Foreign policy.

He explained that he “started taking graphs and photos with me because I found it to hold his attention better.”

“If I could put a picture or a picture in front of him, or a map or a piece of paper with two big bullet points, he would focus on it, and I could build on that,” Tillerson said. “Just sitting and trying to have a conversation like you and I work, just does not work.”

Asked by Foreign policy how Trump made informed decisions when the president had difficulty concentrating during briefings and did not read briefings, Tillerson did not hesitate.

“Well, that’s the key,” he said. “I’m not sure many of the decisions were well-informed.”

The interview with Foreign policy was carried out before Trump incited a crowd to march to the Capitol – an event that led the House to indict the president for a second time this week. And given the magazine’s audience, the conversation focused almost exclusively on foreign affairs.

But even just on the world front, Tillerson offered a sad assessment of Trump’s approach, and he expressed confusion over the president’s preference for criticizing allies and being authoritative for authoritarian regimes.

“Nothing worked out,” he said.

The US wasted the best opportunity we had on North Korea, Tillerson said. With Russian President Vladimir Putin, “we did nothing,” he said. And, he added, the US is “nowhere with China on national security.”

“We’re in a worse place today than before he came in,” Tillerson said, “and I did not think it was possible.”
