WATCH: The Karate Kid’s Original Lo-Fi Cut

The late Karate Kid director, John Avildsen, originally filmed the entire 1984 project on a camcorder, which can now be viewed in its entirety.

Originally Karate kind the late John Avildsen, shot a rehearsal version of the entire film on a camcorder that can be viewed in its entirety on YouTube.

Posted on YouTube by Deadly weapon the actor Andrew Patrick Ralston, the whole lo-fi version – which was filmed in 1983 – is almost two hours long. Some of the recordings take place only on an empty sound stage, but other parts were shot on the spot with actors in costume.

“Incredibly rare video rehearsal footage of John G. Avildsen. He shot the entire film with a video camera before using a frame,” Ralston wrote. “I downloaded all the clips he had on his personal Youtube channel and consolidated them into one 2-hour clip. My curator was worried that this footage could eventually be lost since John passed away in 2017.”

The practice video also contains some removed scenes from the original Karate Child, which debuted in 1984. Avildsen, who passed away in 2017, directed the original Karate kind movies, which were then re-received after the recharge, including the popular Netflix program Cobra Kai.

Cobra Kai stars William Zabka, Ralph Macchio, Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Maridueña, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan and Martin Kove. Seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming on Netflix, with season 3 set to premiere in 2021.
