WATCH LIVE: Explosion of fireworks in Ontario, structural fires, rapid response of firefighters in neighborhoods

ONTARIO, California (KABC) – A large explosion ignited several structural fires in a Ontario neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, causing a response from emergency personnel.

The incident occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. in the vicinity of South San Antonio Avenue and West Maple Street, smashing nearby windows and sending a large plume of smoke into the air.

“We are aware of the loud explosion that has been heard recently,” said a brief statement from the city’s official Twitter account. ‘Ontario police and the Ontario Fire Department are investigating. Stay away from the area. ‘

Whether anyone was seriously injured is not immediately known.

A later tweet from the city said the fire broke out after a large amount of fireworks ignited at a house. ‘At least one other house also burned down, along with several outbuildings on a farm-like property.

The AIR7 HD news video showed firefighters rescuing a horse trapped in a fence, with batting fires burning dangerously close.

Residents as far away as Anaheim and Huntington Beach reported that they had reverberation due to the initial explosion.
