The Hillsborough County sheriff recently responded to a call about a 10-foot 2-inch crocodile spotted under a parked car in Tampa, Florida.

Deputies and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) responded to the call on March 31 at 8:45 a.m. and sent a “contracted loot runner” to transport the animal to a crocodile farm, according to a Facebook post in which he film footage of the catch first reported by Fox 13 Tampa.

“THIS IS THE TIME OF YEAR – it’s mating time and in general gators become more visible and active during spring and summer!” said the HCSO in the Facebook post. “As the temperature rises, their metabolism increases, and they start looking for food.”

The crocodile was not harmed and no one was injured.

Alligator sightings in Florida usually increase during mating season between April and June. Female hurdles can lay up to 46 eggs between June and July, and the alligators are usually born between August and September, according to the FWC.

The SKO said people concerned about alligators should call the FWC’s Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-392-4289.

The sheriff and FCW recommend that when people come down with alligators, they keep a safe distance from the animals, keep pets on leashes and away from bodies of water, only swim during the ligure in the designated areas and never feed the reptiles.
