Watch Derek DelGaudio’s ‘In & Of Itself’ on Hulu, see Derek + director Frank Oz on Stephen Colbert

Derek DelGaudio’s IN & OF SELF, a film directed by Frank Oz, streaming on Hulu from Friday, January 22nd.

Both Derek DelGaudio and Frank Oz are tonight (Thursday, January 21) in the Stephen Colbert show and talk about making this film interpretation of Derek’s lively, interactive one-man performance experience.

We discussed the performance here at Boing Boing, and here back in 2016. We really love Derek’s work at Boing Boing. And I really love this movie.

I watched this movie months back and was deeply moved. I never saw the performance live, and it was completely new to me.

I do not want to give away too much, but I can say that IN & OR SELF currently feels to me like a kind of medicine for the soul, and @derek_del and @TheFrankOzJam launch their collaboration really in a timely manner.

Transcendental goods.

So, take some time, maybe tonight if you read it after the release date, and look at it – maybe yourself, maybe with someone you care about.

Derek DelGaudio’s In & Of Itself is a new kind of lyrical poem. It tells the story of a man who fights to see the illusion of his own identity, only to discover that identity itself is an illusion..

In & Of Itself was a unique theatrical experience, created by Derek DelGaudio and directed by Frank Oz. The show had its world premiere on May 3, 2016 at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, where several expansions were seen before moving to the Daryl Roth Theater in New York City. It swept Off-Broadway for praise and quickly expanded its initial 10-week commitment again, selling its intimate 150-seat home, night after night. The show continued to expand its run until DelGaudio (somewhat controversially) decided to end the show at the height of its success, saying, “I feel like I said what I wanted to say.” After 72 weeks, 560 performances and more than $ 7 million at the box office, In & Of Itself closed as one of the most successful shows in off-Broadway history.
