The FBI, in an intelligence report obtained by the Post, said it was monitoring individuals downloading maps of sensitive areas around Washington and talking about how these sites could be used to invade security, the Post reported. .

The report warned that members of QAnon and ‘lone wolves’ had indicated they planned to travel to Washington on Wednesday for Biden’s swearing-in ceremony, the Post said.

“But the briefing did not identify any specific conspiracies to attack the inauguration events” which would be similar to the January 6 uprising on the U.S. Capitol, in which some members of QAnon participated, the Post said.

The FBI said it was investigating “suspicious traffic” over communications systems used by some participants in the January 6 Capitol attack – but “nothing to indicate any specific action”, according to the Post.

According to the newspaper, the FBI did not want to characterize the credibility or seriousness of the threats it outlined.

The agency quoted the Post as commenting on Christopher Wray, director of the FBI, in which he said the FBI sees’ extensive ‘chatter around the inauguration and says’ one of the real challenges in this space is trying to discern what is aspiring and what is potential. ‘

CNN reported earlier that the FBI has ordered thousands of National Guard troops to provide security during the inauguration before their arrival in Washington to prevent any threats from within, and the U.S. military is working with the Secret Service to determine whether there are soldiers who need additional background screening.

Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller said Monday that there is “no intelligence indicating an insider threat” for Biden’s inauguration, adding: “we leave no stone unturned to secure the capital.”

In the aftermath of the Capitol uprising earlier this month, there was a large security presence in Washington for the inauguration of Biden, with more than 20,000 National Guard troops expected in the city to secure the event.
