Washington Football Team puts franchise label on Brandon Scherff

Washington has placed the franchise label on the right guard Brandon Scherff for the second consecutive year, the team announced Monday night.

Scherff will receive $ 20.03 million in the 2021 season – a 20% increase over the previous season. But Washington is still hoping to sign him to a long-term deal. It has until July 15 to do so, and a source has described talks so far as friendly.

Scherff, who turned 29 in December, played on the franchise label last season and earned $ 15.03 million. He also becomes the first Washington player to be named the first All-Pro team since player Matt Turk in 1996. Scherff has made four Pro Bowls, including the last two.

Coaches like how Scherff played inside, but also how well he blocked in the screen play on the move.

But injuries were also a problem. Scherff has not played 16 games since 2016 and has missed a total of 18 games over the past four years. He ended up in 2017 and ’18 on an injured reserve.

Washington selected Scherff with the fifth overall pick in the 2015 draft, and intended to try him with the right suit first. But Washington moved him to right-wing early in his first camp and began tackling Morgan Moses, creating a strong tandem on the right.

While in Iowa, Scherff was named the country’s best attacking linebacker in 2014 as the Outland Trophy winner.
