Warriors’ Steph Curry has been named NBA’s third-best pure scorer by insiders

If you need a man who can go looking for points no matter the situation, there are not many players who are better equipped than Warriors star Steph Curry.

Curry is the league’s fourth leading scorer at the All-Star break, with 29.7 points per game. Steph also plays all NBA players so far this season with 169 3-pointers, 23 more than the nearest player.

The Athletic surveyed a panel of 30 NBA insiders, including coaches, managers, scouts and former players about who the league’s purest scorer is, and Steph came in third.

Former Warrior Kevin Durant finishes far No. 1 on the list, gaining 20 votes in the first place out of a possible 30 and a total of 246 points. His teammate and former Warriors nemesis James Harden came second with 166 points, including four votes in first place.

Steph scored three votes in first place for a total of 114 points, with fellow star point guards Damian Lillard and Kyrie Irving rounding out the top five.

It’s hard to argue with the top three, as Durant, Harden and Steph all present tremendous challenges for any defense. A few years ago we saw how powerful the combination of Curry and KD was in the same offense, and after an early season game, the league got a glimpse of how dominant a tandem Harden and Durant are with the Brooklyn Nets.

The good news for NBA fans is that four of the top five will be in action Sunday night in the NBA All-Star Game of Atlanta, with Durant being the only exception as he has a thigh muscle.
