After two seasons on Cinemax, Kryger—The historical martial arts crime drama whose most immediate claim to fame is that the concept was originally developed by Bruce Lee – comes back again. Well, sort of: Rather than return to the premium cable network that was his home for the first two years, Kryger will now switch to Cinemax’s streaming cousin, HBO max.

Andrew Koji, who took place in San Francisco in the 1870s, is Ah Sahm, a Chinese immigrant looking for his missing sister amid the infamous Tongue Wars fought between Chinese gangs in the city during the era. Olivia Cheng, Jason Tobin, Dianne Doan and a well packed crew co-stars is the cast of the series and sketches a 19th-century version of California just waiting to explode due to political, racial, social and more tensions.

Kryger last in December last new episodes aired; it is also the distinction that this is the last series produced at Cinemax before the network shut down original programming for good (at least in part due to the advent of HBO Max). Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee—Which executive performs at the show—issued a statement today on the renewal and the move:

WWe are excited and grateful for the opportunity to do another season, and we commend HBO Max for understanding the importance of telling this story and for continuing to support this level of representation in our industry. I just know that my dad is grinning now to see that this program he dreamed about so long ago continues to beat the odds. We plan to deliver the same high-meaning storytelling and Gung Fu action in season 3!
