Warnock would defeat Loeffler in Georgia’s runoff

Democrat Raphael Warnock will reportedly defeat Senator Kelly Loeffler, R-Ga., In one of the two major Senate runoffs in Georgia, according to Fox News’ decision bank early Wednesday.

Warnock addressed his supporters shortly after the ballot box closed and declared victory.

“Georgia I am honored by the faith you have shown me, and I promise you this tonight. I’m going to the Senate to work for the whole of Georgia,” Warnock said briefly.

The focus now shifts to the second race between Senator David Perdue and Democrat Jon Ossoff. The candidates were locked up in a tough race and it was too early to call a winner. Under Georgia law, a backward candidate can request a retelling when the margin of an election is less than or equal to 0.5 percentage points.

If Ossoff wins, Democrats will have full control over Congress, which will strengthen President-elect Joe Biden as he prepares for Jan. 20.

Loeffler urged her supporters to ‘keep fighting’. She refused to concede. Loeffler told supporters her campaign sees a way to victory.

“Every American, stay with us in the fight,” Loeffler said after midnight, with votes still being counted. “We’re going to keep fighting for you. It’s about protecting the American dream. I’m never going to stop fighting for this country, for the American, for each and every one of you, so that every Georgian has a voice in Washington.

“I work for you, I do not owe anyone up there,” she continued. “We’re going to do it. God bless you, thank you very much, God bless Georgia and we’re going to do it. Thank you.”

Stacey Abrams, the influential Democrat from Georgia, congratulated Warnock on Twitter.

“Last year in January, I endorsed my beloved friend in his quest to serve. Soon he will walk into those eighty halls and cast votes as a leader with courage, fairness and integrity,” she wrote.
