Sen. Raphael Warnock was criticized on Sunday over a tweet at Easter saying the “meaning” of the holiday is more transcendent than the resurrection of Jesus.
The tweet was removed but recorded by sites such as Mediaite and the Daily Wire.
“The meaning of Easter is more transcendent than the resurrection of Jesus Christ,” the senior pastor said in a report by the New Ebenezer Baptist Church. “Whether you are a Christian or not, through a commitment to help others, we can save ourselves.”
There are about 2.3 billion Christians around the world and Easter is one of the holiest days of the year celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. “Thus He overcame death and delivered us from sin if we believe in Him,” according to Christianity.com.
Allie Stuckey, a writer and podcast host, tweeted: “There is nothing more transcendent than the resurrection of the God-man, Jesus. Literally: his resurrection transcends our finite notions of science and rationality. That the Word became flesh has lived among us, were our sins killed to overcome death only 3 days later? ‘
Warnock held a Sunday service where he talked in part about life and how – with the coronavirus – this season was “a season of separation”.
“A lonely season,” he said. He pointed out how Mary Magdalene stood alone outside Jesus’ tomb weeping, and in her experience tied to how much of the suffering of life – even with support systems such as family and friends – takes place in solitude.
“There’s a way we can all keep the shadows, just so we can survive,” he said.
Mediaite pointed out that Warnock did get some defenders on Twitter. MSNBC host Joy Reid has slammed former Trump lawyer Jenna Ellis for tweeting that Warnock “spreads a false gospel and heresy.”
Ellis said that the human condition cannot save itself.

She called Warnock a ‘false teacher’.

Reid pointed out that Warnock is the pastor in Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ‘s church.
