WandaVision episode 5 spoilers follow.
In one of WandaVision’s most heartbreaking moments, Wanda tells her twin sons, “We can not stop death, no matter how sad it makes us.” This is not good news for all the Sparky punch out there, whether you love cute dogs or the Tom King ‘Vision’ comics that inspired this little critter.
What Wanda says, however, is not entirely true. Sure, the mechanics of Vision’s resurrection have yet to be determined, but we do know that Maximoff is somehow responsible for his return, and re-operates his robotic body like a creepy puppet show.
And then of course that end. We’ve suspected for a while that Pietro will live in the MCU again, because if Wanda’s husband can come back, why not her dead brother too?

What we did not necessarily expect – internet leaking aside – was that this version of Pietro would not be the one that Wanda fought with in the Avengers. In reality, this Quicksilver has so far not even appeared in the MCU, something that was only recently made possible thanks to the merger between Disney and Fox.
But we find ourselves. First of all, who is this ‘long lost brother’ and why does he look like Evan Peters? Wanda certainly looked confused, and many viewers probably shared the sentiment as well.
As Marvel fans will remember, Aaron Taylor-Johnson played Pietro Maximoff Avengers: Age of Ultron, but the speedster’s time on screen passed fairly quickly, as Ultron killed him before winning the credit roll.
The Pietro living here WandaVision immediately claims to be Wanda’s brother, and seems to recognize her as well, so why was Aaron Taylor-Johnson not recreated in the role? A year before Marvel brought the silver-haired speedster to life on screen, Fox’s X-Men released their own version played by American Horror Stories Evan Peters.
For years, the MCU and Fox’s X-Men universe could not overlap for boring legal reasons, keeping characters who often hang out together in the comics apart.
Things were mostly kept on screen on this, but Quicksilver was an unusual case because in the source material he is a mutant and an Avenger. Since these complicated things enabled Marvel and Fox to both create their own unique versions of the same character, these vague lines made it possible.

However, that changed a few years ago when Disney and Fox merged, allowing Marvel to eventually integrate long-lost characters like the X-Men into their world. Fans have been speculating about this for some time, but in the end, WandaVision has now confirmed that mutants are officially part of the MCU. Or did it?
More on that later, but for now. the question remains: why would Wanda raise another version of her brother? Did she just ‘rewrite’ him, as Darcy suggests? Was Aaron Taylor-Johnson just busy that day?
At the moment, there are two prevailing theories, both more enchanting than even Wanda herself. The first possibility is that it’s not really Pietro and that Marvel is just messing with us by rolling someone who once played this character in another studio. And if that’s the case, we can ‘t think these’ Pietro ‘intentions are good.
WandaVision’s the latest installment goes to great lengths to indicate that Wanda is the MCU’s new Big Bad, and yes, the way she manipulates innocent people is unforgivable, but it still feels like someone else is manipulating her in the same way. Agnes ultimately knows more than she’s going through, and although Vision thinks Wanda is completely in control, she was even surprised by Pietro’s arrival.
This suggests that Evan Peters is playing someone else who is not all under Wanda’s game. When she brought Vision back to life, it was a deliberate step on her part, but that’s not the case here, and would she not have needed to focus on bringing Pietro back? Of course, he could just be another manifestation of her subconscious, but if that were true, would he not have looked like Aaron Taylor-Johnson?
Fans have been suspecting for some time that someone else is pulling the strings here, and an obvious choice from the comics is Mephisto, Marvel’s version of Satan. This demonic entity had previously manipulated the comic Wanda in an attempt to harness her power, and the story of her children is inextricably linked to his. Then there is Master Pandemonium, a former Hollywood star who now offers Mephisto and uses demons for limbs. Yep, really.

Both characters caused Wanda countless suffering in the comics, destroying her hopes of a happy ending to name her own. So it’s quite possible that Evan Peters is actually playing one of these villains in disguise. And the real devil’s arrival in the MCU would be a big changer, right?
But then, this still does not explain why Evan Peters appears instead of Aaron. If it’s not just a cast, it seems the most likely explanation for all this is that he’s really playing Pietro, but the one we first saw in the X mans films.
DC’s Flash can use its super speed to chase between alternative realities, but Quicksilver does not know that he used his powers in this way, whether you’re talking about Marvel’s Pietro, Fox’s Pietro, or even the cartoon Pietro. In view of this, it is more likely that Wanda took this version of her brother directly from the X-Men universe and into the MCU.
This episode goes out of its way to confirm that Wanda can rewrite reality, so it is possible that she unknowingly dragged another version of Pietro to Westview. Wanda can only bring Vision back to life because he is synthetic and both share a connection with the Mind Stone. The resurrection of a real human being can exist outside the world of even Wanda’s power, so instead of reviving her Pietro, she sought the multiversity (unconsciously) for another Pietro who survived.
There have been a variety of cubes on the map for some time. We do not only know for sure Deapool 3 Ryan Reynolds will bring in the MCU, but it has also been confirmed that previous Spider-Men from the Sony universe will also meet Tom Holland’s Spidey. And it’s not coincidental Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will arrive before then …

Knowing that Wanda also appears in the film, it goes without saying that all of Wanda’s interference with reality can disrupt the fabric of reality at large, which may force Doctor Strange to step in and help restore the multiverse. before it’s too late.
With multiple Spider-Men and a confirmed Fantastic Four the X-Men are definitely going to rub shoulders with the Avengers sooner rather than later, and it looks like WandaVision is the key to unlocking it all.
If that’s true, it’s too early to know if Evan Peters will stay long as a ‘new’ Pietro. And honestly, we’re also a little worried about the future of Vision. After Sparky’s death, Billy and Tommy tell their mother that ‘Family is forever’, but we’m not so sure Wanda will get the happy ending she deserves …
