The dramatic beginning of the episode revealed that Monica was a victim of Thanos’ Snap and showed her return to the world due to the events of Avengers: Endgame. She meets again in a hospital room where she is waiting next to someone’s bed when she is dusted off.

It turns out that the person she was dating when the Snap happened was her mother Maria Rambeau Captain Marvel by Lashana Lynch. However, Maria did not return at the same time as Monica.

Tragically, Monica finds out that Maria, although she had a successful operation to defeat cancer five years ago, returned after Monica disappeared and tells her that her mother passed away three years ago.

RIP Maria ‘Photon’ Rambeau.

We have at least noticed that after the events of Captain MarvelMaria has established SWORD – the Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Division – which will henceforth form a large part of phase 4.

Her off-screen death, however, could rule out the possibility Captain Marvel 2 occurrence unless previously occurring WandaVision in the MCU timeline.

It has been confirmed that Parris will repeat her role as Monica Rambeau in the sequel, so if Maria will be involved in it, it could be that the sequel before Avengers: Infinity War in the timeline. It might focus on the origins of SWORD and Monica’s earlier days as an agent who worked with her mother as a SWORD director.

It looks like a strange environment for Captain Marvel 2 as it does not allow much character development of Monica or Captain Marvel himself. It seems more likely to be after the events of WandaVision, which would exclude a return for Mary outside the flashbacks.

We’ll only have to watch this space now as we try to figure out what’s going on in hell in Westview.

WandaVision is broadcast every Friday every week Disney +, while Captain Marvel is also available to watch Disney +.
