‘Vote another 4 years – or more’

RICHMOND, Va. Dozens of parents and community members gathered at Southside Plaza on Saturday morning to gather for Richmond Public Schools Superintendent Jason Kamras.

“I’m writing Keep Kamras hashtag and then I’m going to write for another four years,” said Richard Sebastian, Richmond’s parent.

The group took part in a car parade through the city to request the school board to extend Kamras’ contract by another four years.

“He did an excellent job. Sebastian said: “He had a strategic plan that we never really had.”

Parents and students will meet on Saturday, February 6, 2021 to extend the contract of Richmond Public Schools Superintendent Jason Kamras for at least another four years.

“We feel like he’s present in all the areas and represents all the communities and he’s working on all the issues that matter to the parents,” added Pam Booker, another parent in Richmond.

Kamras’ contract is on June 30, but the school board has yet to make a decision on his future.

Half of Richmond school board members support a four-year extension for Kamras, while the other half are in favor of no more than two, according to the Richmond Free Press.

‘He sends out an RPS board. “Let us know if anyone has a virus or something like that and to pay for it themselves,” said Latisha Erby.

Erby, who has four children in Richmond Public Schools and helped organize Saturday’s parade, said she was happy with his leadership during the pandemic and the decision to keep RPS virtual.

“I feel we need to stay virtual and online. “Even if it’s not easy, it’s safer, ” Erby said.

She just hopes the board makes the right decision.

“Come Monday, I hope and pray that everyone will vote for another four years or more,” Erby said. “That’s what I work with.”
