The Florida Department of Health on Friday announced an additional 16,875 cases of coronavirus, of which nearly 500 were in Volusia Province, bringing the total to 1,548,067.
On New Year’s Eve, the state reported its highest increase in one-day cases with 21,015. The second highest increase occurred on January 7 with 19,816 cases. The third highest increase was 19,530 cases on January 8th.
The highest single-day increase in new cases in the Volusia district occurred on January 3, with 588 cases. The second highest increase was January 5 with 562 cases. Friday’s 493 new cases make it the third-highest one-day increase in the country.
Flagler County reported a record high number of new daily cases on Jan. 2 with 115. The province had its second highest increase on Jan. 3 with 97.
In Florida, 186 new coronavirus deaths were reported, bringing the total to 23,799.
An additional 370 deaths outside the country are not included in the state’s total number.
On Thursday, 74,559 people across the country received a COVID-19 vaccine, bringing the total number of vaccines administered to 849,317, according to a FDOH report. Of the vaccines administered, 79,552 received the second dose.
The state’s daily positivity rate, calculated by the total number of people tested for the virus, and the total number of people tested positive, was 10.14% on Friday, based on 163,164 tests.
As of Friday, 67,463 Florida residents were hospitalized with COVID-19.
