A painting of a Parisian street scene done by Vincent Van Gogh has been shown in public for the first time ever. The British auction company Sotheby’s announced on Wednesday that the 1887 painting will be presented for the first time in Hong Kong, Amsterdam and Paris.

Van Gogh’s painting will be auctioned in March and is estimated to sell for up to $ 7 million. The auction company said the painting was previously privately owned and had never been seen in person.

“The painting is a true rediscovery, which means that although it has been published in extensive catalogs, it has never reappeared on the market since the day it was acquired by the family that owns it,” said Claudia Mercier, auctioneer of Sotheby, said. “So it’s been more than a century since this painting was in private hands.”

Some of Gogh’s paintings still remain privately owned, making the exhibition a historic event.
