[VIDEO] ‘The Masked Singer’: [Spoiler] Is Seashell – Season 5

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Wednesday’s The Masked Singer.

Despite a run that only got more and more impressive each time she appears in Season 5 of The Masked Singer, Seashell was expelled from Fox’s costumed singing competition on Wednesday. And when the giant shell came down, Sister, Sister the star Tamera Mowry was the crown crustacean. (In the two-hour episode, Crab also left – read our summary to see who he really was.)

TVLine spoke to Mowry on Wednesday – of which the TV CV is also included Home & Family and The rights – about how she just could not keep her Seashell a secret from her twin sister Tia Mowry. Read on to hear what she had to say.

TVLINE | Since I think another of the acts this season is a brothers and sisters, I would not put it past this show to try to get both you and your sister there. Was it ever an option? Talk to me about how you got involved.
I have always loved singing. Anyone who likes me knows I sing in the shower, especially my brother. I grew up with a lot of “Shut up! You’re too hard! ‘ [Laughs] I sang the whole time when I was cleaning, when I was in the shower, in between studying at university, I thought I was Celine Dion. So I started my career in a singing group called Voices. And at that moment, my sister and I called a pilot Sister, Sister. So I had to decide which path I was going to take. And I have always loved singing, it was just that acting was there before me.

Clearly, I think I made the right decision at that moment. Sister, Sister was an American classic, a hit. But at the same time, I always asked, “When will I be able to sing again? And on stage? And act? I sang ‘I’m Going Down’ Sister, Sister and to this day, people absolutely love it. But I really did not perform anymore, like singing and dancing on a stage with music for over 20 years. It was always a dream to visit it again, how it felt. When The Masked Singer come, my co-host The rights, Adrienne [Bailon] did it and she looked at me after everything was over, she was unmasked, she said: ‘Tamera, you must do this show … You have to do it. “So did I. There was an event a year ago and I could not do it. When I came back, I said yes without question.

TVLINE | What did Tia think? Did she know?
Yes of course. I think the hardest part was trying to keep it quiet. The only people who knew initially were my mother, my husband and my cousin. My cousin was there with me. He is my ride-or-die, he is my best friend and he is also a worship leader in his church. So I did not have this big following with COVID, and I wanted someone there – he’s like my life coach, and that’s why he coached me through the whole process. And my mom was on the phone just about every show and after, so I had my little support group. But I could not tell anyone else that. You must not tell anyone! [Laughs] That was the hardest part. But literally, at the first performance, I found out that my sister sent a message to my brother, Taj, and my brother texted me, like, ‘We know it’s you.’ [Laughs] And I mean, you can not deny it.

TVLINE | Nicole Scherzinger guessed your name in this week’s episode. What happens under your mask when you hear her say?
I was like, ‘Oh my God! Eventually! It took you so long! ” [Laughs] But I was also like, ‘Damnit, she knows.’ There could be no hiding. She was so confident. And I loved that she thought this was my best performance. I did not see it, but I literally had the most fun singing this song. It was a children’s song I loved. I wanted to prove my honor by just being an entertainer, and it was one of the first songs I made a dance with my babysitter’s daughter and my sister.

TVLINE | I know you’ve already addressed it, but if you’ve had an update I should ask: Any talk of revisiting the Sister, Sister revival?
From now on, no … Sometimes you do not waste perfection. [Laughs]
