Conservative co-presenter “The View” Meghan McCain said on Wednesday that the video of the Capitol riot that was played during the indictment of former President Donald Trump last month literally took my breath away.
“I started crying again,” she said. “It’s like revisiting trauma. I was so deeply and deeply moved by what happened on January 6 for various reasons, and I think all Americans are.”
Trump, who was indicted on January 13 over a single article to incite an uprising, is the first president to stand before the U.S. Senate after leaving office. Democratic indictments played a 13-minute video Tuesday that shattered Trump’s rhetoric about the theft of Joe Biden’s election and urged his supporters to fight with violent footage of the riot.
Trump’s defenders said the proceedings were illegal and insisted the former president never asked his followers to commit violence.

McCain, the daughter of late Senator John McCain, R-Ariz., Said she was moved by the indictment manager, Jamie Raskin, and said his daughter did not want to return to the Capitol after the January 6 events.
“I also do not want to go back to the Capitol now, and I was literally raised to the Capitol all my life,” she said.
McCain added that she was particularly struck by Trump’s rhetoric about Vice President Mike Pence during the rally on the day of the riot. Trump urged Pence to ‘pres. ‘Rejecting elections’ that Trump considered fraudulent, even though the vice president did not have the authority to do so. Pence, who handled the certification, had to be evacuated when Trump supporters stormed the building, and some of the rioters could try hard to hang on.

“Words have consequences,” McCain said. “It’s like something out of a dystopian, science fiction movie.”
Trump’s acquittal appears to be certain, with 44 out of 50 Republicans voting Tuesday that the trial itself was unconstitutional. McCain regularly clashes with her liberal co-host, but she agrees with them to urge Republicans to convict Trump and prevent him from holding office.
McCain said Republicans are trying to strike a balance not to abandon Trump altogether because of his support, but had harsh words for former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, who criticized Trump’s rhetoric about a stolen election but Democrats told the man to “break” and skip accusation.

McCain calls Haley’s comments “the most disgusting language I’ve ever heard.”
“It’s hard for me to give President Trump a break when our vice president could be assassinated because of the things he said,” she said. “I would like to see more Republicans come forward and do the right thing ethically, but politics is going to come in here.”
