Video footage of Oregon GOP Rep holding the state’s Capitol door open last month for protesters to enter

A video appeared Friday night of Republican Oregon President Mike Nearman pushing a door open as he left the state Capitol, allowing protesters to enter the building while a legislative session is underway.

In the security footage obtained by The Oregonian / OregonLive, the representative leaves through two doors, pushes one short further open and lets a protester enter the premises. It is then seen that a stream of protesters enters the building, before the state police force them, which has resulted in an argument.

At the time of the offense, there was a special session going on in the Capitol. Those who entered the building illegally, some of whom were carrying guns, were protesting the COVID-19 restrictions outside the country at the time, the Oregon outlet reported.

Some of the protesters acted violently during the offense and allegedly attacked journalists. One also sprayed an officer with something, as seen in the footage.

The Oregonian reports that at least two people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The Hill reached out to Nearman’s office for comment.
