Video: Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor show mutual admiration during backstage meeting after UFC 257

Despite his first knockout blow in the UFC, Conor McGregor was an overall defeat.

McGregor performed for the first time in a year when he met Dustin Poirier in a rematch in the main event of Saturday’s UFC 257 event in Abu Dhabi. After a competitive first round, Poirier began to take over in second position and landed a series of hard kicks with low legs to McGregor which put him in a precarious position.

“The Diamond” will use his brilliant strategy and drop McGregor and finish at the halfway point of the round to achieve the biggest victory of his career.

Although the class was in the agtagon and during the press conference after the fight, Poirier and McGregor shared a moment behind the scenes after their second fight.

Poirier tied the series on Saturday with a win. McGregor knocked out Poirier in the opening round of their first event at UFC 178 in September 2014.

A trilogy battle is important for both contestants, but it appears that Poirier will continue to compete for the lightweight title, currently held by retired Khabib Nurmagomedov. UFC president Dana White has not lost hope that ‘The Eagle’ will return for at least one more fight. The odds seem to be disappearing by the hour, though an official decision on the title has yet to be announced.
