Victoria 3 may be announced in May

Paradox Interactive has just concluded their ‘Paradox Insider’ event on Twitch, which was in collaboration with MIX’s Game Dev Direct. We’ve already had announcements regarding Crusader Kings 3, Stellaris, even Surviving Mars, but the publisher of the strategy game started business by announcing their plans for PDXCon this year.

PDXCon is every year the fans that the company presents, although the current global health crises have made physical gatherings generally difficult. This year, the event team at Paradox decided to host a free, digital-only event called PDXCon Remixed.

As with past events, there will be new announcements, panels and press sessions that will examine their 2021 page in more detail. Paradox CEO Ebba Ljungerud did not release any details, but she confirmed that there would be an announcement about a new game from Paradox Development Studios. For those who do not know, this is actually the primary studio behind big strategy games like Stellaris and Imperator: Rome. That’s right, this is an announcement of an announcement!

It could also be Europa Universalis 5, as it will be the next one if we look at the release order of the previous generation of great strategy games. Stellaris 2 could be an outlier; that game has undergone some major changes and some may feel that a sequel is needed to reconcile the current state with the old-fashioned design choices.

Or we could look at a new IP – Imperator: Rome was released in 2019 and had a very rocky road, but it sold well enough to get the developer team working on it, and the recent 2.0 update really has it ‘ a new lease. Victoria 3 is the current meme request.
