‘Venom 2’ release date has been postponed until September

Sony Pictures has delayed the theatrical release of “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” again. The superhero sequel starring Tom Hardy will hit the big screen on September 17th.

The ‘Venom’ sequel was postponed several times during the pandemic and was recently launched on 25 June. Despite the reopening of movie theaters in Los Angeles and New York, it’s not entirely unexpected that ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ was relegated. Universal recently moved its ‘Fast and Furious’ sequel ‘F9’ to the end of June, so the two tent poles would open on the same weekend and compete for the attention of younger male moviegoers. Since the box office is slow to recover, at least in North America, the commercial outlook for one potential kit, let alone two more in one weekend, in the summer is uncertain.

With the release of mid-September, the ‘Venom’ continued space between ‘The Suicide Squad’ on 6 August and Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune’ remake on 1 October. On September 17, ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ will premiere alongside the star-studded murder mystery “Death on the Nile” and Universal’s animated children’s movie “The Boss Baby: Family Business”.

Along with the delay of ‘Venom’, Sony has removed ‘Man From Toronto’, an action comedy starring Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson, from the release calendar. It was originally scheduled to take place on September 17th.

Andy Serkis leads the sequel to ‘Venom’, which sees Hardy portray his role as the titular alien symbiote. The original film from 2018 became a surprise box office hit and earned $ 855 million worldwide. Harrelson, Michelle Williams, Reid Scott and Naomie Harris will also appear in the sequel.
