Vegan KitKat: Nestlé’s latest candy bar is missing a key ingredient

Nestlé launches a non-dairy version of the popular candy bar called KitKat V. The Swiss company continues on the plant-based alternative food trend. Nestlé promises that the new candy still has the ‘perfect balance between crisp wafer and smooth chocolate’.
KitKat V ditches milk, which is used for its regular KitKats, as an alternative to rice, in addition to its new sustainable cocoa, according to Bloomberg. The new bar will be on sale at select retailers in different countries later this year before being expanded worldwide.
Nestlé is launching a vegan KitKat candy bar this year.

“Taste was a major factor in the development of the plant-based chocolate for our new vegan KitKat,” said Louise Barrett, head of the Nestlé Confectionery Product Technology Center, in a statement. “We used our ingredients expertise, along with a testing and learning approach, to create a delicious vegan alternative to our original Chocolate KitKat.”

Vegetable foods also range from meat and milk. In 2019, Mars introduced a range of vegan chocolate bars as a way to attract eaters who want to reduce their health and environmental reasons. Other manufacturers, such as Lindt and Cadbury, have also recently debuted vegan sweets.

According to Alexander von Maillot, the confectionery of Nestlé, the trend will continue to grow.

“There is a silent food revolution going on that is changing the way people eat. We want to be at the forefront of it and strive for the discovery of plant foods and beverages,” he said in the statement.
