(CNN) – The covid-19 variant was first detected in the United Kingdom as having “barred the country” “and will close the world with all probability”, said Sharon Peacock, director of the Covid-19 Genomics UK consortium, at the BBC’s miércoles.
The covid-19 variant is highly transmissible and was identified by the first time in September 2020, in the English county of Kent. It has been detected in at least 86 countries and is the catalyst of the current United Kingdom confinement.
Peacock predicts that in its sequencing process, which will detect coronavirus mutations, it will likely be necessary during another decade to ensure that the virus continues to circulate throughout the world.
“We are building a list, a species of mutation leaderboards that we care about and that we can look for … Creating that, while making the future, we will be harmed for years to come. In my opinion, we will continue to do so for another 10 years ”, says the BBC Newscast podcast.

Hablando on the origins of the covid-19 variant of the United Kingdom, known as B.1,1.7, Peacock says that there is a scientific literature that suggests that this evolution in an immunodepressed patient.
“This virus is very different from the one that was circulating that only had two possible explanations: one was introduced, the second explanation is very plausible, and it was found in a patient who had an infection during many months. and this virus has the opportunity to adapt and change with time. I believe that there is a literary literature that proves that this is the case, ”said Peacock.

At a Downing Street press conference in late February, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that the new variant of the United Kingdom would be 30% more lethal than the previous ones.
Peacock told the BBC on Wednesday that there was no concrete evidence to support this theory.
“The jury has been deliberating on this, not believing that the evidence is actually firm … believing that it was a good investigation,” he said.
