Vanessa Bryant says that Evan Rachel Wood called her “husband” Kobe Bryant “rapist” “the day of his death” “shameful” and “disturbing”.
Hours after Kobe’s death on January 26, 2020, the 33-year-old Westworld actress tweeted: “What happened is tragic. I’m sad about Kobe’s family. He was a sports hero. He was also a rapist. And all these truths can exist simultaneously. ”
Vanessa, 38, posted on her Instagram story on Saturday that the tweet came to her attention more than a year later.
“Your fake, insensitive, defamatory and defamatory tweet on 26/2/20 was, to say the least, disgraceful and disturbing,” the NBA player’s widow wrote about a screenshot of the original tweet. ‘Such behavior is part of the reason why innocent black men go to jail for crimes they did not commit. An accusation does not make someone guilty. ‘
“You do not know the facts of the case,” she added. Vanessa sent the same message to film producer Abigail Disney, who at the time tweeted: ‘The man was a rapist. Deal with it. ”
Kobe was accused of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old hotel employee in Colorado in 2003. Prosecutors dismissed the charges after the prosecutor refused to testify. She later filed a civil lawsuit against the Los Angeles Laker, which was settled out of court in 2005.
Wood’s tweet immediately fell back in 2020, while fans came to Kobe’s defense. Actress Kyla Pratt replied that she admired Wood’s work, but “this tweet? How dare you do that? ”
Vanessa posted Pratt and thanked her for her response to Wood Saturday.
A rep for Wood did not immediately return our request for comment.
Earlier this month, Wood named her alleged abuser as ex-fiancé Marilyn Manson.
“He started caring for me as a teenager and abused me horribly for years,” she claims. ‘I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I already live in fear of retaliation, slander or extortion. Following several allegations by Wood and other women, Manson – who vehemently denied all allegations – was dismissed by his record company and longtime manager.
“Obviously, my art and my life have been magnets for controversy all along, but these recent allegations about me are terrible distortions of reality,” Manson, 52, wrote in a statement. “My intimate relationships have always been one-sided with partners who think alike. No matter how – and why – others now choose to misrepresent the past, this is the truth. ”
