Vancouver PeaceHealth Hospital Reports COVID-19 Outbreak

The health organization distributed an outbreak of COVID-19 to 30 patients at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center on Friday night.

None of the patients were admitted due to the virus, and no one tested positive after admission, the Columbian reported.

In addition, six employees caring for the patients also tested positive for the virus, and PeaceHealth placed 86 employees in self-quarantine due to the outbreak.

“Our infection prevention specialists immediately began a thorough investigation to understand the causes of this situation and to ensure further protection for our patients and caregivers,” said Dr. Lawrence Neville, chief medical officer, said in a news release.

“This is a very complex exposure, and we are continuing to investigate the situation and have put in place controls to prevent further exposure.”

Clark County Public Health and PeaceHealth notify patients who may be exposed, the news release reads.

“Unfortunately, it’s a reminder that COVID stays in our community and can spread very quickly,” Neville said. “We all need to be vigilant about physical distance, wearing masks and limiting our gatherings.”

PeaceHealth, a non-profit Catholic health care organization, is located in Vancouver.
