Valley couple survive after Bama BBQ 4 Ever truck explodes in Gilbert

GILBERT, AZ – A Valley couple survived after a truck they were working in exploded in Gilbert Thursday night.

Robert and Amber Everson recover in a burn unit after their Bama BBQ 4 Ever truck exploded.

The Phoenix-based restaurant in Phoenix was holding a rally in Adora Trails Park on Thursday night when Everson finished before being nearly blown out of his truck.

Everson said it was unclear what exactly happened, but he remembered turning the top of a gas tank: ‘It blew me out of the truck, and I was engulfed, my whole shirt was on fire, my shorts on, my legs were on fire, ‘he said.

Everson remembers ‘stop, fall and roll’ and that’s exactly what he did.

“The bad part of this is that it’s our brand new truck,” Everson said. “We just built that truck.”

Like so many small businesses, the Eversons have been hit hard by this whole pandemic. The couple relies on big occasions, from weddings to graduation ceremonies, “with COVID we had to get out every day and bounce down the street.”

AZ – Parties posted on Friday night about the tragedy because Bama BBQ 4 Ever had to be at their outdoor food car rally in Queen Creek.

Last night, Bama Bbq 4 Ever Catering was in a horrible accident. There was an explosion in their truck during an event with Robert and Amber inside. Both have sustained serious burns and will be in treatment and recovery for some time. Their brand new truck that Robert worked so hard for was completely destroyed.
