Valheim developers recommend Amon Amarth as background music

Sometimes it helps to stay in a few tunes while playing a survival game like Valheim, to get in a mood and keep the energy levels high when looking for supplies. If you’re looking for a recommendation, developer Iron Gate has exactly one in mind.

We asked Iron Gate CEO Richard Svensson which metal band is best at the Viking game, and he reckons there is only one group for it. “Of course anything by Amon Amarth!” He says. “This is the music of the game’s development.”

If you are not already familiar, Amon Amarth is a Viking metal band. As in, they are a bunch of tall, bearded young men from Sweden with long hair playing massive riffs, supported by thundering drums, growling singing used, and all their songs are about Norwegian history and mythology. This is really a match made in Valhalla. It’s comforting to know that the team had the right kind of music in the background when they developed the open world game. Songs like ‘The Way of Vikings’, ‘At Dawn’s First Light’ and ‘The Pursuit of Vikings’ are perfect for staying motivated, determined and employed by Odin.

Here is one of Amon Amarth’s more famous music videos:

If I may be so bold, I have a few other bands that can help expand your Valheim playlist: Blind Guardian, Korpiklaani, 3 Inches of Blood, Bolt Thrower, Dream Evil and Ireland’s own Primordial, for the long nights that await dawn’s break.

Iron Gate also told us how Valheim was inspired by the original PlayStation, and the possibility of transporting ore through portals. We have guides for the best Valheim mods and the best Valheim weapons to make your Viking routes as prosperous as possible.
