Vaccinations of vaccines as Michigan prepares to expand to people 50 years and older

Provinces across Michigan have reported some signs of progress in trying to vaccinate people to reduce COVID-19 transmission this week.

On Wednesday, March 3, Michigan announced that it is eligible for vaccinations for people 50 years and older, with certain requirements, starting Monday, March 8th.

Residents 50 years and older who have “existing conditions, disabilities and other medical vulnerabilities” are eligible Monday, March 8, confirms Bobby Leddy, government press secretary Gretchen Whitmer. Two weeks later, beginning March 22, all residents 50 years and older will be eligible, the governor’s office said.

Eligibility does not mean that all provinces will start accepting patients in the group immediately. Some provinces have not provided full details on local action and when vaccinations are available for people aged 50 and over.

Health officials are still completing vaccinations of people in the vaccination phase that include people aged 65 and older and others. About half of Michigan residents, 65 and older, have now been vaccinated.
