Vaccination sites open at 2 new locations in Duval County

Two vaccination centers run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency opened in Duval County on Sunday morning.

The satellite sites moved from the Westside and Northwest Jacksonville to the Carver Center in 5th Avenue South in Jacksonville Beach and the Oceanway Center in Sago Avenue West on the Northside.

According to FEMA, the sites will be open for ten days from 09:00 to 17:00 – until 23 March. The sites offer the Pfizer vaccine and up to 500 shots can be administered per day at each site.

The boarding places do not require an appointment, and shots are fired on a first-come, first-served basis.

Kelsy Adams, who works in higher education, was waiting in her car for the yard at the Carver Center to open. She and a friend traveled about two hours from Gainesville to be vaccinated.

“Everything is full, yes. It’s just … the medical facility and everything, you just can not get in there, there are people who have higher priority, “said Adams. ‘So let’s try [the Jacksonville Beach site]. Nothing else, we’re each going to get food and drive back. ‘

An hour before the site opened at the Carver Center, the line began to grow and wrapped around the building.

People living on the beaches said it was about accessibility.

“It’s a relief. We all waited like that, so it’s nice, ”said Liz Root, a resident of Jacksonville. ‘I still want us to be careful until a majority of us are vaccinated. I just do not want it to be a free-for-all. ‘

“We need to make it available to everyone so we can do what we need to do again,” said Ponte Vedra Beach resident Burl White.

There was no queue at the Oceanway Center yard Sunday morning when News4Jax stopped by them.

The two original satellite sites in the Normandy Community Center and the Hammond Senior Center will return for two-dose shots.

FEMA has opened the two satellite sites in partnership with the federal-backed vaccination clinic at the Gateway Mall on the Northside. The premises in Norwood Avenue are open seven days a week from 07:00 to 19:00 and can fire 3,000 shots a day. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is offered at the Gateway Mall site – not in the Carver and Oceanway centers.

As of Monday, the age for people to be eligible for vaccinations is dropping at 60 locations in all locations in Florida.
