A pop-up COVID-19 vaccination effort began Tuesday in northeast San Fernando Valley, with the first of three sites opening in Pacoima, officials said.
Subsequent sites will arrive in Sylmar and Tujunga and are open to residents of Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez’s District 7, which also includes North Hills, Mission Hills, Lakeview Terrace and Shadow Hills.
The hyper-local approach “is part of the way we get equity, and that’s how we work to make these vaccines available to members of our community, many of whom do not have the means or the means or the time to navigate. . which was a very complicated process, ‘Rodriguez said.
Appointments are available for residents over the age of 65, as well as workers in food services, farming and agriculture, emergency services, education, child care, health care and residents of long-term care facilities.
The officials can administer as many as 200 doses daily, the officials said.
Rodriguez said in a video the launch that the pandemic devastated parts of her district, therefore she requires people to provide proof that they are residents.
“We are looking for people with the zip codes in our community because I did not want people from other communities to come in and gain access to the vaccines that our community desperately needs,” Rodriguez said.
The pop-up sites are located in the following places:
- Valley Crossroads Seventh Day Adventist, at 11350 Glenoaks Blvd. in Pacoima, from 09:00 to 15:00 from Tuesday to Saturday. Appointments can be made by calling (818) 485-0600.
- Sylmar Recreation Center, at 13109 Borden Ave. in Sylmar, from 09:00 to 15:00 from 9 to 13 March. Appointments can be made by calling (818) 756-8409.
- North Valley City Hall, at 7747 Foothill Blvd. in Tujunga, from 09:00 to 15:00 from 16 to 20 March. Appointments can be made by calling (818) 352-3287.
Elderly and health workers “remain our top priority,” Rodriguez said, adding that the pop-up sites are meant to provide better access to those who may not be able to go further after vaccinations.
On Monday, access to vaccines in Los Angeles County was expanded with essential workers, including teachers and farm workers. That day, the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood opened as a major vaccination site for employees in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Government Gavin Newsom has ordered that 10% of all vaccines received in the state be set aside immediately for teachers, childcare staff and other school staff.
