Commerce City, Colo. A website for the vaccination of Johnson & Johnson vaccines in Colorado was shut down on Wednesday after some people experienced mild reactions.
Paul Doucett said he was looking forward to getting his vaccine, but he was turned away before he got a chance.
“We got there early at 2:30 and then got about five cars off the next row to get the chance, and they stopped it,” he said.
Doucett saw two ambulances and said something looked off.
“Someone pulled in when you entered. And there was one who was already there, ‘he said.
The organizer, Centura Health, said it made the call to close after seeing several adverse reactions.
Spokeswoman Lindsay Radford said in a statement: “We have followed our protocols and with great caution made the decision – in partnership with the state – to interrupt the rest of the day.”
According to Centura Health, only 11 patients, or 0.62 percent of those who received the vaccine on Wednesday, experienced the mild reactions. Most were monitored at the vaccination site, but two people were transported to a hospital “out of precaution”.
“It took at least an hour and a half before they came back and said, ‘We just are not comfortable with adverse reactions, so we’re going to reschedule you,” said Doucett, who was disappointed but worried.
‘I’m a mariner, I’m not really worried about taking a shot, and if dr. “Fauci says take the shot, I’ll take the shot,” he said.
Doucett’s wife had earlier in the day received the vaccine Johnson and Johnson at another location, saying he was “doing well”.
Doucett said he still trusts and wants the shot.
“I do. It’s not going to scare me at all,” he said.
According to a Facebook message, 1,700 patients received their shots at the site on Wednesday before closing, and the 640 who were turned away are automatically rescheduled for Sunday, April 11th.
