Paso Robles captain Charles Brown speaks to members of the media.
The vaccination clinic at the Paso Robles Event Center will close next week due to a lack of available doses. After receiving as many as 4,000 doses in previous weeks, the San Luis Obispo County Department of Health received only 900 doses from the state of California last week. The amount of doses is the biggest factor in calculating how many people are vaccinated.
Local firefighters held a media tour of the clinic set up in the Paso Robles event center on Friday. Captain Charles Brown of the Paso Robles and Cal Fire Public Information Officer Adan Orozco escorted members of the media through the temporary vaccination center.
Charles Brown explained protocol and told reporters that the vaccination process would be interrupted during the tour so that no one receiving a vaccine would feel that their rights to privacy were being violated.
The vaccination center is staffed by people from all over the country. The media met several Mississippi workers who were trained and flown to Paso Robles to help with the vaccination process.
Brown said the number of vaccines administered Friday was small due to the relatively small amount of doses distributed to the country. He said the state had not offered an explanation for the reduced number of doses. He said the state is currently building large vaccination centers in Oakland and Los Angeles. This may have affected the number of doses sent to San Luis Obispo County, but that’s just speculation.
The clinic at the Paso Robles Event Center will reopen the week of February 15th. The vaccination center at Cuesta College near San Luis Obispo will continue next week.
Some locations, outside of the public health provinces, may also provide the vaccine, such as Albertson’s local pharmacies. Vaccination opportunities can be viewed on the country’s website at: https://www.recoverslo.org/en/vaccine-registration.aspx#Other-vaccine-opportunities.
