MADISON, Wis. As people over the age of 65 are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine from next week, UW-Madison says approximately 1,800 members of their campus community will be notified to make appointments.

According to the university, eligible people can also look for the vaccine and book an appointment with their own healthcare provider if they do not want to get the vaccine through the university.

University health services were approved as vaccinated on Dec. 30 and began vaccinating people who qualified under Phase 1a of Wisconsin’s vaccination plan on Jan. 5. This includes people who have direct contact with COVID-19 patients or with the virus, such as researchers studying the virus or employees testing COVID-19 samples.

The university says that it also recently started vaccinating members of the UW police station as phase 1b of the vaccination process.

Like most health care providers and vaccines, UW-Madison reminds people that their vaccination efforts depend on the availability of the vaccine, as well as state and federal guidance.

The university says they will be eligible with anyone else who is eligible to plan a vaccine once final guidelines have been issued on who else will be included in Phase 1b and other phases of the vaccination process.
