The number of new cases of COVID-19 reported in Utah in the past day rose to nearly 600 on Wednesday. The 590 new cases were the most in one day since April 6, when 611 were reported.
The number of Utahns fully vaccinated against the coronavirus has reached nearly 820,000. This is approximately 36% of Utahs eligible 16 years and older, based on the U.S. calculation from the U.S. Census Bureau for 2019 in Utah.
But the state also reported three more deaths attributed to COVID-19.
Vaccine doses administered in the past day / total doses administered 34,472 / 1,950,894.
Utahns fully vaccinated • 819,683.
Cases reported in the past day • 590.
Deaths reported in the past day • Three: A man between the ages of 65-84 in Davis County; a woman 65-84 in Iron County; and a woman 25-44 in Utah County.
Tests reported in the past day • 4 057 people were tested for the first time. A total of 15,496 people were tested.
Hospitalizations reported in the past day • 146. It’s eight from Tuesday. Of those currently admitted to the hospital, 58 are in intensive care units – two more than Tuesday.
Percentage of positive tests • According to the state’s original method, the rate is 14.5%. This is more than double the seven-day average of 6.2%.
The state’s new method counts all test results, including repeated tests of the same individual. Wednesday’s rate was 3.8%, higher than the seven – day average of 3.0%.

Total to date • 393 862 sake; 2,177 deaths; 15,981 hospitalizations; 2,505,996 people were tested.
