SALT LAKE CITY – The daily COVID-19 case numbers, hospitalizations and deaths in Utah dropped slightly in Saturday’s report from the Utah Department of Health.
There are 467 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of known infections since the pandemic to 381,254, which is about 11% of the population. However, health officials believe that not all people with symptoms have been tested and not all infected people have experienced symptoms.
More than 1.13 million doses of vaccine have been administered to people across the state, including 25,861 doses since Friday, the health department reported. This includes 753,804 people who received one dose, and 413,058 – or about 12% of the state’s population – who were fully vaccinated.
The state has received 1.3 million doses of vaccine manufacturers, a number awarded by the federal government.
COVID-19 vaccines are currently available for Utahns 50 and older, as well as people with an extensive list of medical conditions. Healthcare workers, first responders, residents and staff for long-term care facilities, and K-12 teachers and school staff are also still eligible to receive the vaccine.
Earlier this week, Utah Government Spencer Cox announced that all Utahs ages 16 and older are eligible to be vaccinated from Wednesday, March 24, although it may take some time to make an appointment at the various locations the vaccines provide.

Of the more than 1 million COVID-19 vaccines administered in Utah, 180,113 doses are of the Moderna vaccine and 203,129 are of Pfizer-BioNTech. The health department reports 29,816 Utahns received the Janssen vaccine, manufactured by Johnson & Johnson, which requires only one dose.
The effectiveness of the different vaccines is only achieved about two weeks after the final dose has been administered.
The United States Centers for Disease Control & Prevention reports more than 118 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been distributed since Dec. 14, when the first shots were fired.
Since the distribution of COVID-19 vaccine in the United States on December 14, more than 118 million doses have been administered, which have vaccinated more than 41 million people or 12.6% of the total U.S. population.
The moving average number of positive tests of seven days is 469 per day, compared to 474 on Friday and 510 per day last Saturday. A total of 14,990 tests were administered to 6,451 people. It sets the seven-day moving average for percentage positivity of tests at 4.1% if all tests were included, and 8.1% if multiple tests were excluded by an individual during the past 90 days – both slightly lower than Friday’s reported statistics.
There are currently 160 people throughout Utah in the hospital with COVID-19, which is 16 less than what was reported on Friday and 16 more than what was reported a week ago, according to the Department of Health.
Two more deaths were reported on Saturday, losing the COVID-19 death toll to 2060 lives since April 2020. The deaths include a Davis County man and a Weber County man, both between the ages of 65 and 84 and both of whom were admitted to the hospital. at the time of their death.
