Utah Government Spencer Cox (R) calls on members of his own party to focus on more than just cultural wars with Democrats.
“There’s more conservative than owning the library,” Cox said during an interview on the podcast “Matt Lewis and the News” released Wednesday.
He added: ‘I still believe in a Republican Party and a Conservatism that uplifts everyone and what it’s really about for everyone, and we do not do that by turning people away or ruining people’s lives, or just this again. false controversies, these false choices. that we keep presenting people. ‘
Cox has complained about GOP legislation because it does not prioritize policy issues affecting average Americans, but rather focuses on winning the other side.
“I’m very worried that … we’ve lost our values as a party,” Cox said. “It seems we have just defined ourselves as opposed to what the left has done.”
The United States deficit is one of the issues Republicans are beginning to ignore, Cox said.
“Nobody has increased the deficit in the last four years,” he said, arguing that policy should be at the forefront of political discourse.
“These are the conversations we have to have and unfortunately not. We are spending more time with Dr. Seuss and Mr. Potato Head,” he said.
