US will need negative Covid tests for incoming international air travel

The people will soon require airline passengers to prove that they recently tested negative for Covid-19 before flying to the country, according to people informed about the plan.

The measure, aimed at limiting the spread of the disease, comes as new cases come to record.

According to one of the people, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for Negative Covid Tests, previously reported by The Wall Street Journal, could come into operation. The CDC, the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Transport did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The CDC began demanding negative Covid tests last month for travelers flying from the UK, as a more contagious strain of the virus was found there, although it has since been found in the US

International air travel remains extremely depressed due to virus and travel restrictions banning many foreigners from entering the US

According to International Airlines for America, a trading group representing most American airlines, international arrivals by plane decreased by 76% compared to a year earlier.
