The Biden government announced on Saturday that the U.S. had set a new record for the number of COVID-19 shots fired in a single day, which vaccinated more than 4 million people.
Cyrus Shahpar, White Director COVID-19 Data Director, tweeted on Saturday that more than 4.08 million doses have been administered in the past 24 hours. He noted that this was the first time that the US had an average of more than 3 million doses per day in the past week.
“Wow a record reporting day !! + 4.08 million doses administered over the total yesterday. First day w / 4M or more. Shahpar also averaged more than 3 million a day for the first time in the past week. “Millions are coming together to accelerate our progress in controlling the pandemic!”

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that the U.S. has since administered 4,081,959 doses of vaccinations, bringing the seven-day average vaccinations to 3,072,527 per day.
In total, more than 161.6 million doses of vaccines have been administered in the United States so far, according to the agency’s vaccine detection. More than 104 million people have received at least one dose and nearly 60 million have been fully vaccinated.
The data comes as the government seeks to accelerate vaccinations in an effort to return to some normalcy.
The CDC issued guidelines Friday stating that people who have been fully vaccinated do not need to be tested before or after domestic travel. However, the agency still recommends wearing a mask and being tested three to five days after international travel.
But despite encouraging news on the vaccine front, experts warn the U.S. public must remain vigilant to avoid another nationwide upsurge in cases.
Cases have been steadily increasing over the past few weeks after declining after the winter holidays. Michigan in particular has seen an increase in cases over a two-week period, according to data from The New York Times.
According to CDC data, more than 30 million Americans have been infected with coronavirus since the pandemic, and more than 550,000 have died.
