US stocks end slightly higher

The major US stock index rose slightly on Tuesday, although the weakness in the shares of technology and social media companies limited their profits.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 60.00 points, or 0.2 percent, to 3,1068.69 after fluctuating between small gains and losses throughout the day.

The broad S&P 500 scored 1.58 points, or less than 0.1%, to 3801.19. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 36.00 points, or 0.3%, to 13072.43.

All three indices closed at record highs on Friday, but started pulling back this week.

Investors generally expect equities to rise this year, as vaccine deployments and new government spending help the economy recover from the disruption caused by the pandemic. Nevertheless, some support volatility in the coming months amid risks due to high valuations in parts of the market, increased coronavirus cases and political uncertainty following the attack on the Capitol last week.
