Urgent care clinics had to turn people away because many people go looking for COVID-19 tests

The holidays are in the rearview mirror, but the number of coronaviruses is still rising on Long Island – and now so many people are trying to get tested that urgent care centers have to turn some away.

CityMD in Lake Grove was no longer for the day at 11 p.m. Those who were lucky enough to get a seat were asked to wait in their cars until it was their turn.

Long Island’s positivity rate continues to grow, with the average of seven days now standing at 8.8%. Suffolk’s seven – day moving average is 9.7% and Nassau’s 7.9%.

Dr. Robert Levy, with AFC Urgent Care, says his test sites are also well discussed every day. He says he fears the numbers could get worse before it gets better.

Suffolk County manager Steve Bellone is appealing to residents to quit now that the holidays are over. Nassau CEO Laura Curran reminds everyone to follow COVID-19 safety measures to keep businesses and schools open.

On New Year’s Day, 25 Long Islanders die as a result of COVID-19 – 17 were from Suffolk and eight from Nassau.
