The former head coach of college football, Urban Meyer, who has won several national championships in Florida and one for Ohio State, apparently expects to be named the next head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Saturday that the Jags are expected to replace sitting head coach Doug Marrone shortly after the team’s season ends Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

He then made this remark about Meyer: ‘The team showed interest in former Florida and Ohio coach Urban Meyer, who drafted a staff and told people that he is close to the football community he expects to be in. Jacksonville to land, according to sources. “

Meyer has been head coach for Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and the state of Ohio for 17 seasons 187-32. Ten of his teams finished in the top six of the Associated Press poll.

Meyer retired after the 2018 season due to health issues and worked as a college football analyst for Fox Sports. A recreation in the NFL would be the first time since he began his coaching career at the St. Xavier High School outside Cincinnati began in 1985.

If the 56-year-old Meyer is not the final choice or decides to retire, his successor to OSU, Ryan Day, will be considered via Rapoport. Day lost just two games in two years when the Buckeyes’ head coach led the team to the College Football Playoff National Championship against first-place finishers in Alabama this year.

Whoever accepts the Jaguars’ job has a difficult task. Jacksonville is 1-14 after dropping its last 14 games, though the team has some talented players on both sides of the ball, including linebackers Josh Allen and James Robinson.

The addition of a player like Lawrence would be a huge boost for any franchise, and Meyer apparently wants to work with him.

“It smells like he just wants Trevor Lawrence,” an anonymous manager told Mike Sando of The Athletic. “Good for him, and if I had drafted Lawrence, I would have looked for the best head coach.”

Jacksonville has the opportunity to take on Lawrence on April 29, which is the first day of the 2021 NFL draft. The Jags ensured the overall choice of the draft for the draft.
