[Update: Image] Apple ransomware leak confirms 2021 MacBook Pro ports: HDMI, MagSafe, SD card slot

Update: The files also contain an image showing the I / O of a new MacBook Pro with USB-C, HDMI and an SD card slot on the right side of the machine.

A hacker group called REvil is currently blackmailing Apple supplier Quanta for about $ 50 million. The group claims to have leaked thousands of files containing information about future Apple products.

9to5Mac viewed some of the files that have already been released. The documents contain technical specifications for Apple’s upcoming Apple Silicon MacBook Pro, with the code J314 and J316. These specifications confirm previous reports that the new MacBook Pro will include MagSafe, HDMI and an SD card slot.

As early as January, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the 2021 MacBook Pro will include I / O ports such as HDMI, SD card slot and could also bring MagSafe back for magnetic charging. The leaked documents support this.

REvil threatens to release more documents every day that Quanta does not shell out. So far, the leaks contain nothing as important as product images or design schemes. The released documents seen by 9to5Mac is deeply technical, including specifications for power voltage and other funny details.

The relevant documents refer to devices with code names “J314” and “J316”, dated March 2021 for the prototype stage of the Engineering Validation Test. As reported by Bloomberg in January, these code names represent the upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. Based on the main schemes for the 16-inch model, the specifications confirm the existence of an HDMI port, SD card and MagSafe for charging.

We have also reported references to “J374” and “J375” models before. Based on other findings by 9to5Mac, we believe these are new Mac minis, probably with the next generation Apple Silicon M1X chip. It will offer better performance and is designed to replace the remaining Intel Mac minis in the range.

Of course, we’ll keep an eye on the REvil leaks in the coming days to see if anything else comes up.
