Unvaccinated Kentucky worker launches 46-person outbreak of coronavirus in nursing home

An unvaccinated worker at a nursing home in Kentucky caused an outbreak of coronavirus among staff and residents, even among the vaccinated, in March, according to a CDC report released Wednesday. Nearly four dozen were infected – 26 residents and 20 employees – and two people were killed, including one person vaccinated against the virus; 22 of those infected had already been vaccinated, and most did not develop symptoms or require treatment. The vast majority of the house’s 83 residents – 90 percent – have been vaccinated, but only half of the 116 employees have been vaccinated. The authors of the study write: “To protect competent residents of nursing homes, it is essential that healthcare providers, as well as competent residents of nursing homes, be vaccinated.”
