SINGAPORE – Samsung said on Monday that its next smartphone announcement will be made on January 14, where the new versions of its Galaxy flagship phones are expected to be launched.

Invitations sent by the world’s largest smartphone maker said the event will be broadcast on the Samsung website next Thursday at 10:00 (23:00 SIN / HK time).

The launch will take place the same week as the digital CES 2021 – the biggest technology show of the year, where big companies often showcase their new products.

Samsung, the electronic giant of South Korea, usually launches its Galaxy flagship devices in February, near or during the Mobile World Congress fair.

Samsung did not announce much in its invitation for the January 14 event. According to media reports on previous leaks, three phones could be announced: Galaxy S21, S21 + and S21 Ultra, which will likely follow the company’s S20 devices.

Last year, the South Korean company said its earnings in the third quarter were boosted in part by sales of smartphones, including the Galaxy Note 20. But Samsung predicted that in the last quarter of the year, intense competition in the space for smartphones and consumer electronics will be, which analysts say was probably due to Apple’s iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.

Samsung’s president and head of mobile communications, TM Roh, said in a blog post in December that Samsung would expand its portfolio of foldable smartphones, making devices “more accessible to all” by 2021. The devices are on the more expensive side of Samsung’s family of smartphone products, with the Galaxy Z Flip costing almost $ 1400.

Roh also teased ‘pro-grade camera and video capabilities’ in Samsung’s new smartphones, hinting that some of the features available in the Galaxy Note devices could be added to other devices.

Samsung Electronics’ shares in South Korea rose nearly 3% on Monday.
