United House of Prayer: Charlotte Church holds another big event months after the deadly outbreak of COVID-19

CHARLOTTE (WTVD) – A church in Charlotte that was in the middle of a massive COVID-19 outbreak that left 11 people dead in October, held another large-scale event on Saturday, reports ABC subsidiary WSOC.

A WSOC reporter saw several cars parked in the United House of Prayer for All People (UHOP) parking lot, as well as people who submitted to the church prior to the event.

Provincial officials told the church it was a bad time to hold a big event. However, United House of Prayer leaders have told health officials that they will take all necessary precautions and limit the number of people in the church.

Mecklenburg County Public Health has released the following statement:
“MCPH is aware of the events and has been in talks with UHOP leadership. We have explained that this is not the time for these kinds of events, given the scale of the pandemic in our community. We are assured by church leadership that they it implements all the necessary precautions and the limitation of the numbers in the church at any given time. ‘

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reported Saturday that more than 3,400 North Carolina people are in hospital with COVID-19 and 6,892 people have died from complications with the virus.

In October, more than 200 people contracted the virus and 11 people died after a weekly meeting in the church.

WSOC reports that the rally resulted in the largest COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

After the October outbreak, North Carolina health officials issued an order that banned Charlotte Church from holding personal meetings for two weeks.
