United Center COVID vaccination continues with appointments available on Zocdoc

CHICAGO (WLS) – The United Center’s vaccination site is getting closer to being in operation with thousands of people registered for appointments.

A U.S. Army team arrived on Friday to support the work that is being done with a new tent for vaccinations.

To register for an appointment at the United Center, visit www.zocdoc.com/vaccine or call the multilingual hotline (312) 746-4835 from 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 8am to 4pm on Sunday.

Members of the 101st Aviation turned up to help administer vaccines at the mass vaccination site in Near West Side. There are still appointments available for the United Center, though tens of thousands have been booked Thursday, causing some technical headaches.

City officials say despite an early issue with the appointments website ZocDoc and problems with the overwhelming call option, nearly 28,000 seniors registered by telephone and online by noon.

The site offers 110,000 appointment slots, but seniors will have exclusive access to them until 4pm Sunday.

The United Center website will be the largest in the state. It will be soft next Tuesday.

Another mass vaccination site opened in Des Plaines on Friday, giving away 800 Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

Appointments for all 18,000 places were booked within a few hours on Thursday. The Des Plaines website is for Cook County residents only.

This will be the state’s first large – scale location to administer the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, which is a single – dose vaccination.

Appointments for mass vaccination in Des Plaines can be made at vaccine.cookcountyil.gov or by phone at (833) 308-1988. The website will be open from Monday to Friday from 7 to 19 hours

Illinois reported a new daily high in vaccinations on Friday, with nearly 132,000 in one day.

In minority communities, there is progress, but not enough, and so the state has launched a new $ 10 million public messaging campaign to reduce vaccine hesitation.
