United Airlines investigates source of leaks on Ted Cruz’s Cancun flights

United Airlines has launched an investigation into the source of leaks about GOP Senator Ted Cruz’s controversial trip to Cancun, Mexico, while his fellow Texans were shaking – and dying – without power amid the harsh temperatures.

But the head of the air hostess union has asked United to drop it.

“It is against United’s policy to share personal information about our customers, and we are investigating this incident,” the airline said in a statement to Politico.

An executive director of the airline told Politico that it is not yet certain what steps the company will take if the leak or sweets are found, but that ‘there is no option off the table. ‘Thousands of employees may have access to information on the flight of consumers.

Sara Nelson, president of the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA-CWA), defended the leak and asked United in a tweet to drop the investigation. She said Cruz is not just a ‘customer’ but an ‘official who lied too much’.

She added: “Hey United, #WeAreAllTheLeak.”

Cruz’s insensitive getaway to Cancun with his family and friends blew up in the media after photos of him climbed into the sun on Wednesday.

He first lied that he was merely a ‘good father’ and accompanied his daughters to Mexico, and returned the next day. But according to the flight bookings revealed in the press, Cruz initially planned to stay the weekend, and apparently went on to dodge hard attacks. He eventually admitted that he intended to stay for days and that the trip was ‘obviously a mistake’.

By Saturday, United had far greater concerns, as a flight from Denver to Hawaii en route to Hawaii lost the use of an engine shortly after takeoff and caused aircraft debris to rain on the ground below. The Boeing 777-200 quickly returned safely to Denver International Airport and no one on the flight – or on the ground – was injured.
